Introducing Our Learning & Physical Disability Support
Every person we support has a care plan built around them. We take time to learn what matters to each person, how they like to communicate and what they want to achieve. Support can be a few hours a week or round the clock, with 1:1 or 2:1 staffing when it is needed.
Our support covers personal care, daily living skills, health needs and getting out into the community. We work closely with families, social workers and health professionals, so care feels joined up and nothing gets missed.
We support people with a wide range of needs. This includes mild to profound learning disabilities, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, sensory impairments and communication difficulties. Many people we support have more than one need, so we plan around the whole person, not just a diagnosis.
For people with physical disabilities, our trained staff help with moving and handling, hoists and mobility aids, PEG feeding, medication and continence care. We always do this in a way that protects each person’s dignity and privacy.
Communication comes first. Our team uses simple words, pictures, Makaton and other tools, so each person can share their views and take part in every decision about their care.
All of our staff are DBS checked and receive ongoing training in learning disability, physical disability and Positive Behaviour Support.
We believe people with learning and physical disabilities have the same right as anyone else to a good life. That means a safe home, good health, friendships, hobbies and, where possible, work or volunteering.
We encourage people to try new things and build confidence step by step. That might be cooking a meal, catching a bus, joining a club or going on holiday. We celebrate every achievement, big or small.
OUR APPROACH
We follow the principles of Positive Behaviour Support. We look at what lies behind a person’s behaviour and focus on their needs, not the behaviour itself. This helps reduce distress and avoids restrictive practices. We work with families and professionals, so everyone supports the person in the same way.
